If you are tired of getting looked over
for promotions at work, then now is the time to do something about it. There
are no success stories which start with “I sat on the sidelines until someone
came up and gave me a promotion.” In order to win over your bosses, you will
have to put in some hard work and revamp the way you look at things. For most
people, it is hard to figure out what the first move should be when attempting
to become a great employee. Well, pay attention slacker because you are about
to get all the knowledge your little brain can handle regarding becoming both
indispensable and the boss’s pet.
1. Write a To-Do List!
One of the first things you need to become acclimated to is writing a list
of all of your daily tasks. By having a clear path of what you need to get done
and how to get there, it will be much easier to work at higher levels of
productivity. Without this type of organization, you will be running around
like a dog chasing its tail. Note: A dog chasing its tail is something a pet does,
but not conducive to becoming a boss’s pet.
Among the most common things employees complain about is how busy they are.
Some employees use how busy they are as a badge of honor, but it is anything
but. By telling your co-workers and your bosses how busy you are, it gives them
the idea you are not efficient and cannot manage time well. Instead of running
around talking about how busy you are, let your work speak for itself. The last
thing you want is to appear to be overwhelmed due to the apprehension it will
create with the management when it comes to giving out more responsibility.
3. Can’t it Wait Until Tomorrow: The Procrastination Trap
Are you looking for a way to really grind the gears of your boss? Then
start procrastinating about simple tasks you are assigned. A sure-fire way to
avoid getting promoted is by looking like a procrastinating slacker when it
comes to your work. Instead of putting it off, attack the work you have been
given head on and look up at your boss like little Oliver Twist and say “Please
Sir, I want some more.” This type of go-getterattitude will have you sitting in your boss’s lap being petted like a Persian
cat in no time; metaphorically speaking of course.
4. Unlock the Doors of Promotion with Communication Keys
If you are trying to get on an upward trajectory in your workplace, then
work on your communication. The body part right below your nose with all of the
teeth is called a mouth; use it. Make a point of telling your supervisors what
you need and any ideas you have on increasing the success of your company. The
more vocal you are with the brass upstairs, the easier you will find it to play
on their level.
5. Be Willing to Work
The simplest way to become a favorite of your bosses is by showing a
willingness to work. This means when overtime is offered, you can scatter like
cockroaches when the lights come on. You want to be the superhero around the office who is able to leap buildings and navigate your way around Microsoft
Office with a single login.
By adhering to these basic principles, it will be easier to get ahead in
your chosen line of work. The time you put into implementing these practices
will be more than worth it in the end.
